In 2007, the website Facebook rose in popularity. I hated this. All of the customization that I achieved on my MySpace was now ineffectual because this company churned out template garbage. Everyone's profiles looked the same. There was no point in visiting them anymore. So we stopped visiting carefully curated spaces online.
The skills that I learned while the internet still had personality now serve me professionally. But web standards are a double-edged sword, i.e. they are extremely boring.
I rediscovered the world of Neocities after a certain youtube video discussed the "intentional internet". A hypothetical realm where people still sat at their computers and let their creative juices flow.
